What We Believe
Watered Root Ministries — Pastor Steve Boyer
Welcome to the Watered Root Ministries FAQ and Statement of Faith. These are the core beliefs that guide our teaching, ministry practice, and discipleship. Our aim is simple: to help people grow deep roots in Christ, drink deeply from the living water of His Word, and walk in steady, Spirit-led growth.
Most importantly…
We believe it takes the whole Bible to make a whole Christian.
ABOUT GOD
We believe in one God, eternally existing in three Persons—Father, Son, and Holy Spirit (Deut. 6:4; Matt. 28:19). God is the sovereign Creator, Sustainer, and Redeemer of all things.
The Father rules over creation with perfect wisdom, justice, and love.
The Son, Jesus Christ, is fully God and fully man (John 1:1,14). He entered the world to reveal the Father and to redeem sinners through His sinless life, atoning death, and bodily resurrection (1 Cor. 15:3–4).
The Holy Spirit proceeds from the Father and the Son and indwells all true believers, empowering them for sanctification, obedience, and mission (John 14:26; Rom. 8:9–11).
ABOUT THE SCRIPTURES
We believe the Bible—all 66 books of the Old and New Testaments—is the inspired, infallible, and authoritative Word of God (2 Tim. 3:16–17).
It is completely true, entirely trustworthy, and sufficient for all matters of life, doctrine, and godliness.
“We believe it takes the whole Bible to make a whole Christian.”
Scripture is the final authority by which all beliefs, behaviors, and teachings must be measured.
ABOUT HUMANITY
We believe that mankind was created in the image of God (Gen. 1:26–27), designed for fellowship with Him and for His glory.
However, through Adam’s sin, humanity became fallen, sinful by nature, spiritually dead, and unable to save itself (Rom. 3:23; Eph. 2:1).
Though we are broken, every person still bears God’s image and is worthy of dignity, value, and compassion.
Only God’s grace can restore what sin has shattered.
ABOUT SALVATION
Salvation is by grace alone, through faith alone, in Christ alone, according to Scripture alone, for the glory of God alone (Eph. 2:8–9).
We emphasize:
-
Supernatural Regeneration
We believe true saving faith is only possible because God, by His Spirit, supernaturally regenerates—makes alive—the sinner’s heart.
Without this sovereign work of the Holy Spirit, no one can genuinely believe (John 6:44; Titus 3:5).
-
The Free Gift of God
Salvation is God’s free gift, offered to all who believe in Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior (Rom. 10:9–10,13).
No one earns it. No one deserves it.
Christ accomplished all that was necessary for our redemption.
-
The Assurance & Evidence of Salvation
Those who are truly born again can rest in the unshakable promise that their salvation cannot be lost. Jesus Himself assures us that all whom the Father has given Him will come to Him, and that He will lose none of them (John 6:37–39; John 10:27–29). The Spirit’s ongoing work produces real—though imperfect—fruit in the believer’s life (Phil. 1:6; Gal. 5:22–23).
At the same time, Scripture warns that many possess a false assurance, thinking themselves saved while lacking repentance, obedience, and spiritual transformation (Matt. 7:21–23; 1 John 2:4). True assurance comes not from a past emotional moment but from a present, persevering faith in Christ and the evidence of His grace at work in us.
ABOUT THE CHURCH
We believe the Church is the Body of Christ, composed of all believers from all nations throughout all history (Eph. 4:4–6).
The Church exists to:
-
Glorify God
-
Proclaim the gospel
-
Equip believers
-
Practice fellowship, worship, and service
-
Make disciples of all nations (Matt. 28:19–20)
Local churches are the visible expression of this global body.
ABOUT BAPTISM
We believe baptism is the immersion of a believer in water in the name of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit (Matt. 28:19).
Baptism is a symbol of union with Christ—death to sin and resurrection to new life (Rom. 6:3–4).
It is an act of obedience following personal faith.
ABOUT THE LORD’S SUPPER
We believe the Lord’s Supper is a symbolic act of remembrance commanded by Jesus to proclaim His death until He returns (1 Cor. 11:23–26).
It strengthens believers spiritually, fosters unity, and renews our gratitude for Christ’s sacrifice.
ABOUT THE HOLY SPIRIT & THE CHRISTIAN LIFE
We believe the Holy Spirit indwells every believer at conversion, empowering them to:
-
Understand Scripture
-
Grow in holiness
-
Fight sin
-
Serve with spiritual gifts
-
Bear fruit
-
Walk in obedience
The Christian life is a lifelong journey of sanctification, guided by the Spirit and grounded in the Word.
ABOUT END TIMES
We believe Jesus Christ will return bodily, visibly, and gloriously to judge the living and the dead (Acts 1:11; Rev. 22:12).
The righteous in Christ will receive glorified bodies and dwell forever with the Lord (1 Thess. 4:16–17).
God will bring all things to their proper end in His perfect timing.
